Ten years ago we stuck a little dried out, weedy clump of honeysuckle in a tiny square of ground between the back door and the gatepost.

Now it's all the way up the side of the door and out in an arch over the gate.

Weather today was thick and heavy and the scent from the honeysuckle built up as if it were trapped by the still air. Little bugs swarmed over the flower heads sipping at nectar and bumble bees bounced off the blossoms like fat drunks.

Time flies when you're just standing in this little square of gravelly dirt, eh.

Man, I'm bummed ot tonight.

Drove down to Stranraer today and, leaving Lockerbie we spotted a young deer bolt across the road and leap over the hedge behind the cemetery.

She seemed to be running in slow motion and totally aware of her surroundings, the cars, trucks, pedestrians. Not running blind and panicked but heading someplace deliberately.

Well, about an hour later I stopped for a nature break / top up of the caffeine reserves and was just admiring the countryside when I got the feeling I was being watched.

Dead bambi here was lying in the grass about 5 feet away. Obviously lifted off the road after somebody had collided with her. Dunno. There was just something about the stillness, the still bright eye. Just pissed me off. What a bloody waste.

If somebody shot a deer and tossed the carcase at the sde of the road there'd be an outcry. But because a car did the deed, well, it's just roadkill. Wonder if that's related to the way that courts hand down pretty feeble sentences for road accidents that end up taking a persons life?

Y'know, if they'd been shot or killed then there'd be an outcry, but, if it was a driver in a car. Well, roadkill...
